Trauma

Trauma can change life

Trauma can heavily impact the way one thinks, feels, interacts, and experiences the world. Individuals that are traumatized can often feel out of sync with the world. It can stem from domestic violence, rape, molestation, verbal abuse, neglect, abandonment, natural disasters, discrimination, divorce, and traumatic loss. But it can also be connected to experiences of isolation, social experiences, loss of employment, teasing that many would not realize the impact of.

People with trauma often express panic, being triggered, having flashbacks or nightmares, avoidance, decreased abilities to remember, negative beliefs about oneself or others, continual negative emotional states, detachment, loss of interest, sleeping problems, anger outbursts, disconnection with themselves and the world

How can trauma treatment help? Evidenced based approaches like EMDR and Internal Family Systems has been linked to decreased trauma symptoms and clients no longer having PTSD. (See https://www.emdr.com/research-overview or https://ifs-institute.com/resources/research). Clients sometimes believe change can take a long time but can be amazed at the speed in which they overcome their traumatic symptoms.
