What's Important to Me?

In our fast paced lives, do we really prioritize what's important? We can spend countless hours distracted on our phones, streaming endless episodes in efforts to escape, putting on acts in efforts to make people like us (sometimes even fooling ourselves in the process), spending time with our loved ones with no meaningful interactions, or mindlessly working a 9-5 in misery. My clients frequently ask themselves what is important to them and when they list them many of them find they are not even pursuing what they say is important to them. Sadly for a good number of them they have not been focusing on these things for many years.

Do I Need Counseling?

I find it so odd that we can focus on the health of our physical bodies to prevent major illness, maintain functionality, strengthen overall health, and heal them of diseases. In contrast, when we think or talk of mental health and relational health we can rarely give them the attention they need. We get annual physicals to assess current challenges, identify changes and treatments to decrease disease, and to predict our overall health trajectory. How often do some of us look into our mental/emotional functioning?
